BE A PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO END
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BRUNSWICK COUNTY
COURT ADVOCATE: Volunteers help women during the court process and in filing restraining orders. Domestic Violence court is held every other Thursday and Civil Court is every Friday morning. Volunteers help staff Hope Harbor's courthouse office every morning until noon.
DIRECT SERVICES: This may involve crisis intervention, shelter intakes, liaison with other agencies and providing emotional support.
CRISIS VOLUNTEER: Direct service workers may choose to be "on call" during nights and weekends to respond to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This may involve going to the hospital or police department to meet with victims.
CHILDREN'S ADVOCATES work with the children's program coordinator to address the needs of children who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes. Children are helped to deal with their feelings of fear, guilt, anger, distrust and low self-esteem.
- On Tuesdays, help is needed during the support group 6-8 p.m.
- Volunteers also are needed to plan activities with the children on weekends.
TRANSPORTATION: Volunteers are needed to transport women to court and medical appointments.
(Participation in a volunteer training program of about 20 hours is required for those who want to work directly with clients).
OFFICE VOLUNTEER: May assist with answering phones, running errands, bulk mailings, assembling newsletter, writing "thank you" notes, data compilations, planning and implementing fundraisers and community awareness events.
