About Sexual Assault
Many women who are victims of domestic violence are also victims of sexual assault in their current relationships and/or past battering relationships. They may also have been childhood victims of incest. Please ask to speak with one of our Victim Advocates if this is an issue for you.
Rape or sexual assault
can happen to
anyone, anytime, anyplace.
What To Do In Case Of Rape
What if it happens to you? The immediate reaction is usually anger, disbelief, anxiety and fear. Every person reacts in a different manner. No matter what your reaction is, you will have to make several important decisions at this time. You will need medical care and treatment. You will have to make a decision about reporting the incident to the authorities.
You do not need to face this alone. A Rape Crisis Advocate is available to offer support and assistance.
Remember, regardless of a woman's actions, rape is NEVER HER FAULT.
-
If you decide to report the rape, call as soon as possible after the rape occurs.
-
Try to remember as much as possible about the assault and what took place.
-
Do not change clothes, bathe or douche-no matter how badly you want to.
